Towards a Sustainable Scientific Renaissance: Integrating Research with Sustainable Development Goals in Iraqi Universities
Speaker:
Prof. Dr. Hayder Abed Dhahad – Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, for Scientific Affairs, Iraq
Biography:
Prof. Dr. Hayder Abed Dhahad earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Technology, Iraq, in 2014, after completing his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from the same institution in 1994 and 1998, respectively.
He has held several key academic and administrative roles, including serving as the Vice President for Scientific Affairs and Higher Education Studies at the University of Technology, Iraq. Currently, he is the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, with a focus on advancing scientific affairs nationally.
Prof. Dhahad has published nearly 250 peer-reviewed papers and has supervised numerous MSc and PhD theses. His research expertise includes:

Assist. Prof. Dr. Bassam Said Mohamed Bayoumi – Faculty of Business Administration – Horus University, Egypt
Biography:
Dr. Bassam Said Mohamed Bayoumi is an Assistant Professor at Horus University, Egypt, specializing in Accounting & Auditing and Accounting Information Systems. He holds a Ph.D. in Auditing & Information Systems from Ain Shams University (2023), with research on blockchain applications in auditing. His Master’s degree focused on XBRL language and financial report transparency.
With experience as an Assistant Professor and Assistant Lecturer, he has taught various accounting and auditing courses. Dr. Bassam also has practical experience as an ERP-Financial Consultant, implementing and training on SAP, Odoo, and SQL systems, and has worked as an accountant in different capacities.
As an expert in economics and management, he has authored books on data analysis, business intelligence, digital banking, and governmental digital systems. His research includes the impact of IoT on audit quality and real-time auditing with XBRL-Blockchain integration. He has presented internationally on topics like blockchain applications in smart cities and financial transparency. Dr. Bassam is actively involved in university committees related to postgraduate studies, scientific research, and academic quality

Current Developments in Electric Power Systems: Challenges and a Sustainable Future
Speaker:
Prof. Erdal IRMAK – Gazi University, Türkiye
Biography:
Prof. Erdal Irmak, Senior Member of IEEE, earned his BSc degree in Electrical Education from the Faculty of Technical Education at Gazi University, Türkiye, in 1997. Subsequently, he pursued his MSc and PhD degrees in the same field at the Gazi University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences, in 2001 and 2007, respectively. His expertise covers power system operation and control, voltage and frequency stability, the integration of renewables into power systems, the design of virtual and remote labs, and the cybersecurity of critical infrastructure.
He has authored or co-authored over 130 research papers, most of which are indexed in WoS. Dr. Irmak has led and contributed to various projects, spanning from solar cell technology to microgrid development and real-time pricing optimization in smart grids. He has played key roles in IEEE-supported conferences including GPECOM, ICRERA, and ICSMARTGRID. He serves as the Editor of EPCS and as Associate Editor in prestigious journals such as IJRER and GUJSc. Currently, he is full-time Professor in Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department of Gazi University.

Development of new therapies for IgA nephropathy
Speaker:
Professor Jonathan Barratt – University of Leicester, UK
Biography:
Jonathan leads the Renal Research Group within the College of Life Sciences University of Leicester. His research is focussed on a bench to bedside approach to improving our understanding of the pathogenesis of IgA nephropathy a common global cause of kidney failure. Jonathan is the IgA nephropathy Rare Disease Group lead for the UK National Registry of Rare Kidney Diseases (RaDaR) and a member of the steering committee for the International IgA Nephropathy Network. He works closely with pharmaceutical companies interested in new treatments for IgA nephropathy and is Chief Investigator for a number of international randomised controlled Phase 2 and 3 clinical trials in IgA nephropathy and was a member of the FDA and American Society of Nephrology Kidney Health Initiative: Identifying Surrogate Endpoints for Clinical Trials in IgA Nephropathy Work group.

Dr. Charu Khosla – Director of Academics & Research for International Affairs at Chitkara University, India
Biography:
Dr. Charu Khosla earned her PhD in Environmental Technology & Management from Punjabi University, Patiala, with a focus on Water and Wastewater Treatment using BioResins. Her academic portfolio includes numerous publications in both national and international journals, with around 38 papers presented at various global conferences. She holds 12 patents, has contributed to 3 book chapters, and has delivered 23 invited expert talks.
As a women-led entrepreneur, Dr. Khosla has developed BB ooर्जaa, an innovation aimed at converting agro waste into clean fuel, with improved draft smokeless stoves. This innovation has earned her widespread recognition and several awards. In 2023, she received the International Award for Partnership and Collaboration from Federation University, Australia, for her contributions to Maintenance, Reliability, and Asset Management. She was also honored with the Greenpreneur Award-2021 by Startup Punjab and the Department of Industries and Commerce in collaboration with FICCI FLO, acknowledging her work in energy management. She was also the first woman to receive the Best Eco-Friendly Research of the Year Award from Mr. Sainy Tiemele, Ambassador of Côte d’Ivoire. Dr. Khosla’s innovation BB ooर्जaa was recognized as the runner-up for the prestigious H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Sustainability Award in 2020.
Other accolades include the International Human Star Award (USA, 2018) and the Startup India Himachal Pradesh Yatra Award (2018).
